Spring 2026 Update: Smart Sort, Season Countdowns, Wrapped, and More

April 22, 20263 min readReelRifter Team

We've been quietly shipping all week, and it's time to talk about what landed. Seven features went live across your watchlist, notifications, AI tab, and stats page — here's what each one does and why we built it.

Smart Sort — AI watchlist prioritization

Your watchlist probably has dozens of items you added with good intentions and haven't touched since. Smart Sort fixes that. Head to AI Picks → Smart Sort and the AI ranks your entire watchlist by urgency: titles expiring from streaming services, shows that have been cancelled or ended, and how well each one matches your taste based on your ratings and watch history. The result is a ranked list with reasons, so you know exactly what to watch before it disappears.

Because You Watched… — personalized discovery

Also in the AI Picks tab, the new Because You Watched… shelf surfaces titles you haven't seen but are likely to love — powered by what you've already rated highly. It's discovery that actually knows you, not generic "trending" content that ignores your history entirely.

New Season Countdown alerts

We now automatically send you in-app alerts at 30, 14, and 7 days before a new season premiere for any show in your watchlist. Check the Notifications page and look for the purple "New Season Countdowns" section. No more realizing the premiere was last week.

Finish Before New Season

On any TV show you're currently watching, you'll now see a widget below your episode progress that calculates exactly how many episodes per day you need to watch to finish before the next season premieres. It turns amber if the pace is aggressive (more than 3 episodes/day). It's a small thing that makes a real difference when you're 30 episodes behind on a show with a premiere date coming up.

Interleave Planner

Watching multiple shows simultaneously is the norm, not the exception — but it's easy to let some shows sit unwatched for weeks. The new Interleave Planner on your Dashboard lets you pick 2–4 shows you're currently watching, choose a 7–30 day window, and get a color-coded daily schedule that rotates through them. Each show gets an episode per rotation, keeping everything moving without the guilt of abandoning something mid-season.

Year in Review / Wrapped

Your annual viewing recap is now a permanent tab on My Stats. It shows everything you finished this year: total movies and shows, estimated hours watched, average rating, your rating distribution chart, and your top-rated picks of the year. There's a share button too — copy a summary card to send to anyone who wants to argue about your taste in TV.

Collections

You can now organize your watchlist into named collections — "Weekend Picks", "Sci-Fi Deep Cuts", "Things to Watch With Mom". Collections live in the main navigation and let you group any mix of shows and movies however makes sense to you. Great for curating a themed marathon or separating your solo-watching queue from your shared one.

What's next

These seven features ship on top of the AI Chat, Smart Notifications, Binge Planner, and Friends features from earlier this month. We're moving fast because we have a long list and a launch date in May. If you have feedback on any of this — what's working, what's confusing, what's missing — hit the feedback link in Settings. We read everything.
