Overview
Reel Flick is ReelRifter's TikTok-style discovery feed. One title per screen โ backdrop image, synopsis, year, rating โ and you swipe up for the next. It's designed for the moments when you've got nothing to watch and don't feel like running searches; let the feed do the work and tap to add anything that grabs you.
Reel Flick is mobile-only and currently in Beta. On desktop you'll see a "open on your phone" message instead.
Getting There
- โขExplore โ tap the Reel Flick card.
- โขHamburger menu (More) โ Reel Flick lives there for quick access from any page.
- โขDirect URL โ /doom-scroll.
The Three Actions
Each card has three buttons along the bottom:
- โข๐ Watched โ adds the title to your Watchlist with status Finished. Use this for stuff you've already seen and want logged.
- โข+ Want to Watch โ the primary action. Adds the title to your Watchlist with status Want to Watch.
- โขโ Details โ opens the full title detail page (cast, trailers, streaming providers, ratings, episodes, etc.) without leaving the feed unrecoverable โ use the back button to return.
Once you tap either Watched or Want to Watch on a card, both buttons disable on that card so you can't accidentally double-add under conflicting statuses.
Not Interested (๐)
Top-right of every card is a thumbs-down button. Tapping it removes the title from your Reel Flick feed permanently โ it won't appear again in future sessions. This signal is stored separately from your Watchlist; it doesn't affect search, Trending, or Recommendations.
How Recommendations Are Picked
Each batch of cards is mixed from three sources:
1. Trending this week (TMDB Trending All) โ the broad popular layer. 2. Popular TV + Popular Movies (TMDB Popular) โ long-tail hits. 3. Personalized Discover โ filtered by the genre preferences you set during onboarding (or any time in Settings โ Preferences).
Anything already in your Watchlist (regardless of status) is automatically filtered out, as is anything you've thumbs-down'd. Cards without a backdrop image are skipped โ they look broken full-screen.
The feed is paginated in batches of 12. As you approach the end of a batch, the next batch fetches automatically โ infinite scroll.
Free Tier Note
Adding from Reel Flick counts against your Free-tier Watchlist limit (50 titles). If you hit the limit, the + Want to Watch button will show "Free limit reached" and a tap-to-upgrade banner appears at the top of the feed. Pro and Family plans have no Watchlist limit.
Mobile-Only Why
The vertical-swipe interaction is purpose-built for thumb-driven phones. On a desktop browser, the feed gracefully falls back to a "open on your phone" stub. Tablets in landscape may also see the desktop fallback if the screen width crosses 768px and the device reports a non-touch pointer.
Privacy
Reel Flick uses your watchlist (for de-dup), your genre preferences (for personalization), and your dismissals (the ๐ signal). It does not share what you've seen or skipped with friends, and it does not influence your public Stats.
