Overview
Watch Party lets you and your friends watch the same title at the same time, no matter where you are. It includes a shared chat, synchronized reactions, and a smart title-selection flow that finds something everyone wants to watch.
Creating a Watch Party
1. Go to /watch-party and click Host a Party 2. Give your party a name and set a start time (or start immediately) 3. An invite code is generated — share it with friends via link or code 4. Configure your party: open (anyone with code) or invite-only
Joining a Party
Enter an invite code at /watch-party or follow an invite link. You'll see a waiting room while the host finalizes the title selection.
Picking What to Watch
ReelRifter uses member Watchlists to surface smart picks: 1. The host triggers Match Mode — each member's Watchlist is analyzed for overlap 2. Overlapping Want to Watch titles are surfaced as candidate picks 3. Members vote (thumbs up/down) on candidates in real time 4. The host sees the vote tallies and confirms the final pick
During the Party
- •Synchronized chat — messages from all members appear in a side panel
- •Reaction overlays — fire emoji reactions that appear on everyone's screens simultaneously
- •Sync indicator — shows if any member is out of sync by more than 10 seconds
Requirements
Watch Party requires all members to be watching via their own streaming service subscriptions. ReelRifter coordinates timing but does not stream video directly.
